Doctor John Marburger to Appear at I-CON 29

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Stony Brook, NY, Dec 31, 2009: Icon Science Fiction, Inc. announced today that Doctor John H. Marburger will be speaking at its annual convention in 2010. Doctor Marburger served as Science Adviser to President George W. Bush and as Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy from 2001 to 2009. From 1980 to 1994 he served as President of Stony Brook University.

In 1997 Marburger became president of Brookhaven Science Associates, which operates Brookhaven National Laboratory under contract from the Federal Government.

Doctor Marburger’s own research was in the field of laser physics. He has also served as chairman of the department of physics and Dean of the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences at the University of Southern California.

“Doctor Marburger’s contributions to physics as well as his experience in government and in education make him a perfect I-CON speaker. Our goal is education. Nobody has more to teach than John Marburger,” said I-CON Event Chair John Hudson.

“Doctor Marburger has been a supporter of the convention since it began 29 years ago, when he was President of Stony Brook. We’re thrilled to see him return,” said Lee Wilbur, head of Science and Technology programming for I-CON.

The goal of I-CON is to promote literacy, along with public knowledge of science, technology, and the arts. Past guests have included actors such as Sean Astin and George Takei, movie-makers including the great Ray Harryhausen, eminent scientists like Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson and Dr. Michio Kaku, as well as authors including the late Arthur Clarke and best-seller Charlaine Harris.

Going to a Small Con… Far Far Away

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Not like the fairy tale story in Shrek, I will be attending a small anime convention in a place I never thought of before. And that place is in Arizona outside of Phoenix, the convention is Saboten-Con. It was a last minute decision because of a family emergency and the con is taking place next door where I made plans to stay.
And its only 6 days away from the con I’ve been waiting for since April, and that is Zenkaikon. And that is where I’ll report my experience from this Arizona based convention.
